Description
Nos. 5 and 6 on School Hill are a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century. They feature square panelled timber-framing with brick infilling, and the upper storey has herringbone brickwork. The cottages have a thatched hipped roof with brick stacks. The building has four bays, with the fourth bay added in the 18th century. It is a single storey and attic structure with a five-window front. The two doors are from the 20th century, while the windows are cast iron casements. There are three dormers that are half set into the roof. The rear wall is constructed of English bond brick from the 18th century, and the fourth bay is also made of English bond brick. To the left, there is a gabled extension from the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected, but the cottages were renovated in the 1950s by the Longford Castle Estate, and the windows also date from this renovation.
