Description
38 The Causeway is a house dating from the 18th century, with an earlier rear wing, that was altered to serve as a shop in the early 19th century. The building features painted roughcast over limestone rubble, with a freestone plinth and quoin on the left side. It has a double-Roman tile roof and a tall brick stack at the rear wing. The house has a two-unit plan and is two storeys high, with a three-window range. The first floor has early 19th-century forward-framed 8/8-pane sash windows, while the ground floor features a similar 20th-century window on the right and an early 19th-century shop window on the left, which has a moulded architrave and 20th-century glazing. To the right of centre, there is a 20th-century door with a chamfered architrave and a moulded hood supported by brackets. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, this building was formerly a Burgage House.
