Description

This is an 18th-century house, located on The Causeway in Chippenham, which was converted into a shop in the mid-to-late 19th century. It is also known as No.1 Ladds Lane. The external walls are of painted limestone rubble, rendered to the front, and have a hipped stone slate roof with a central hipped dormer. There are 20th-century brick stacks on the left return and at the exterior of the rear gable end. The house has an L-shaped plan, though the rear wing appears to have been shortened.

The two-storey house has an attic and is arranged with a three-window front. The dormer has Welsh slate cheeks and a 19th-century three-light casement window. The front has four-pane sash windows, paired to the right and a single window to the left return. The shop front has cornices, and a 20th-century central door. A doorway on the left return, in Ladds Lane, is now a window. Both doors have reeded architraves with decorative patera elements at the upper corners. The interior has not been inspected.
