Description
The outfall and sluices to Wilton Reservoir, built in 1836 by John Blackwell for the Kennet and Avon Canal Company, is a Grade II listed structure. It is made of brick with stone corners and features timber sluices. The outfall includes three sluices arranged in a row, which have been restored to control the outflow of water at various levels. There is a weir for two sluices and a channel leading to the feeder cut. Additionally, there are two weir sinks for overflow, and a piped outfall beneath the apron that also leads to the feeder cut. The feeder has a gauge weir and a channel that connects to the pound below Lock 61. A syphon runs under the towpath. This reservoir was built to capture the springs of Wilton village, providing a reliable water source for the canal. It is part of an important group of industrial and utilitarian monuments of special interest.
