Description
This building comprises a school and a former master’s house, dating to 1863-64 and designed by G.E. Street. The school is constructed of brick with a 20th-century tiled roof, featuring perforated ridge tiles. Some areas incorporate tile hanging and timber framing. The original building consisted of a long schoolroom with one classroom on each side. Additional classrooms were added in 1871 and 1891, alongside cloakrooms between 1891 and 1893. The master’s house, now known as No. 12, features an arched entrance with a glazed door and paired 12-pane sash windows set within recessed brick arches, with tile hanging in the tympanum. The roof is half-hipped, and the southern gables are fully tile hung. Inside the main hall, the roof is steeply pitched with scissor trusses and two large dormers, likely the result of later alterations. The windows have internal ferramenta. The school initially accommodated 41 pupils.
