Description

This is an infants’ Board School, dating from 1871 and later used as a workshop. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with some brick banding, and has a slate roof with crested ridges and ventilators. The central entrance features an incised cross within a hoodmoulded arch, supported by cantilevered brackets. Above the entrance is a taller, timber-framed gabled canopy with barge boards. The windows are two-light, with a central chamfered column. A large gable window has a septfoil head. A smaller classroom is situated to the rear, also with a gabled frontage to the street. A small rear wing contains ablutions facilities. The date of construction is marked on the cast-iron rainwater heads.
