Description

This is an 18th-century milestone located on the south side of the road, approximately 300 meters northwest of Little Smithcott Farmhouse. The milestone features a curved front and an indented top. It has been reversed, and a 19th-century cast-iron flat plate has been affixed to it, marked with the distances to Chippenham (10 miles) and Malmesbury (5 miles). The original inscriptions have eroded, but it appears that the left side indicated a distance to Sutton (3 miles).
