Description

This is a detached cottage dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed of rendered brick on a stone plinth, and retains some timber framing on the north wall. The roof is thatched, with a brick stack. The cottage is gabled and has a two-cell plan with a one-bay addition at each end. It is a single-storey building with an attic, containing two windows. A planked door is located on the right, with two two-light casement windows to the left. The attic has two eyebrow dormers, each with a two-light casement. The right return side of the cottage features a two-light and a one-light casement window. The rear has 20th-century casement windows. Attached to the left is a weatherboarded outhouse with a thatched roof, which preserves some timber framing on its left return. The interior features a chamfered beam with step and runout stops on the inserted 17th-century first floor, and an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel also featuring step and runout stops, set within stone jambs. There are planked doors. A plank and muntin partition exists on the first floor. Originally built as a two-cell cottage open to the roof, the timber-framed walls were replaced with brick in the 19th century, a floor was inserted, and a stack built in the mid-17th century.
