Description
Lower Farmhouse is a detached house dating from around 1700. The front is made of limestone ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed from dressed stone. The roof is tiled, having previously been thatched, and features gable end brick stacks. The house is two stories tall with a symmetrical front that has three windows. The central entrance consists of a planked door set in a chamfered case, flanked by blocked chamfered side lights. To the right of the door is a 16-pane sash window, and to the left is a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned window. On the first floor, there are three 3-light mullioned windows. The roof has coped verges.
On the right side of the house, there are two 1-light mullioned windows in the attic, while the left side features a 2-light mullioned window in the attic. The rear includes an outshut with 20th-century casements and a glazed door, along with two 20th-century dormers. Attached to the left side of the house is a single-storey converted barn that has 20th-century dormers and large windows on the left side; the rear features exterior stone steps leading to a former granary. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey in February 1985.
