Description
Gable Cottage is a cottage dated 1723, which has been altered in the early to mid-20th century. It is built of rubble stone and features a stone tiled roof, with stacks at the ridge and north end wall. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has a two-room plan. The original ground floor includes bead-moulded windows, consisting of one two-light and one three-light window under a continuous drip course, along with a central doorcase dated 1723 that has a hood supported by brackets. The upper floor, which was originally designed with two two-light windows under a thatched roof, has been replaced by an asymmetrical arrangement of three 20th-century dormer gables, featuring two-light, single light, and two-light windows. The windows have leaded light casements. The cottage is associated with the village Reading Room from the late 19th century and is listed for its group value.
