Description
The statue of Diana is located on a pedestal about 1 kilometre northwest of Longford Castle. It dates from the 18th century and was created by an unknown sculptor. The statue is made of limestone and features a square plinth and pedestal, which is accessed by three steps. Each side of the pedestal has a circular panel adorned with egg-and-dart ornament, set within a cyma-moulded square panel. The plaques on the pedestal display carved relief scenes of Britannia, either seated or standing, accompanied by coastal scenery and Latin inscriptions. The statue itself is finely carved and slightly less than life-size, depicting Diana holding a shield with a classical male head in relief. It occupies a prominent position in the park, overlooking Longford Castle to the southeast.
