Description

The Old Forge is a detached house built in the early 18th century, with later additions from the late 19th century and around 1911. The exterior features irregular Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof with brick gable-end stacks. The house is two stories high and has a six-window front, with the 1911 section located on the right.

There is a door in a gabled porch on the right side, accompanied by two 2-light cast-iron casements. To the left, there is one cast-iron casement, one wooden casement in a blocked segmental-headed doorway, and another cast-iron casement. The early 18th-century section on the left has a three-brick plat band at the first floor level. The first floor features three 2-light cast-iron casements to the left, along with a segmental-headed window in a central gabled projection. The early 20th-century addition on the right has three 2-light cast-iron casements.

The left side of the house has a wooden casement with a segmental head at the ground level and 2-light cast-iron casements on the first floor. The right side includes a gabled porch and two cast-iron casements on both the ground and first floors. At the rear, there is a 19th-century outshut on the right and a two-story, three-window range from 1911 on the left, featuring cast-iron casements on both floors.

Although the interior has not been inspected, records from the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (R.C.H.M.) indicate that the early 18th-century part of the house contains chamfered beams with ogee stops and a fireplace with a timber chamfered lintel. The chimney on the north gable of the early 18th-century section, which is now central, has a datestone marked SC/1723.
