Description
Nos 1 to 4 Morris Lane, located on the north side, are a pair of symmetrical houses built in the early 19th century. They are arranged at right angles to Morris Lane and are connected by a slightly later conservatory. The houses share a common garden to the south, which features a continuous wide band of formal box-edged beds.
These two-storey houses are constructed of brick on a stone plinth, with a narrow stone band at the first-floor sill level. They have flat eaves and hipped slate roofs, with brick chimneys topped with moulded stone copings. Each house in the pairs has three French casements on the first floor, adorned with wrought iron balconies featuring scroll and honeysuckle patterns. On the ground floor, there are two tall French casements with wrought iron balconies that have interlacing arched patterns and pierced rosette ornaments, along with a central six-panel door that includes an arched radiating fanlight and a stone key to the arch. This door is sheltered by an arched wrought iron porch with panel standards, an interlacing pattern, a scroll overthrow, and a lead roof. All windows are fitted with marginal glazing. The interior may also hold some interest.
