Description
Nos 1 to 4 Lansdowne Terrace, located on the south side of Morris Lane, is an early 19th-century symmetrical block of houses. The building has three storeys and a semi-basement, constructed from red brick with a low-pitched gable and a slated roof. A narrow stone sill course runs along the first floor. Each house features two windows on the upper floors and one recessed sash window with intact glazing bars on the ground floor, all with block sills at the ground and second floors. The ground and first-floor windows are adorned with stepped stone voussoir heads.
At the second-floor level, rectangular panels between the windows display delicate swag and rosette ornamentation. The recessed floors consist of six moulded panels, two of which are glazed, set within stone surrounds that include a cornice and blocking course supported by cut scroll brackets, with the cornice breaking forward over the brackets. The ground floor is accessible from a terrace that is raised above road level over the semi-basement. A central double stair approach is flanked by square brick piers and an arch with stone coping and a central finial. The piers are accompanied by lower brick walls, one of which is now rendered, featuring coping and plain rails, and four hatch openings in the walls. The end walls of the terrace sweep up to the main front, with similar angle piers that formerly had stone ball finials.
