Description

The Girl Guide Headquarters is a building dating from the 19th century, and possibly earlier. It is three storeys high and constructed of ashlar stone with a pantiled roof. A parapet sits on the gable end to the right, incorporating a kneeler. The windows are arranged in groups of three on the upper two floors, and two, one, two on the ground floor. They feature chamfered and moulded edges, and continuous sills. Ground-floor windows are protected by iron bars. A plain wooden door, consisting of four panels, is set within a doorway offset to the right. The building is listed primarily for its group value, located at the west end of a range of houses set back from Church Street. It forms part of a wider group of buildings including the Chantry, Little Chantry, Barton Orchard, the Catholic Church of St Thomas More, Market Street, numbers 7 and 9 to 19 Barton Orchard, numbers 5 and 6, and numbers 27 to 31, along with a wall on Newtown.
