Description
This is a long building comprising numbers 19 and 21 Church Street, situated in the middle of a row of houses on Druce’s Hill, and set back from the main street. It likely dates from the 17th century, with windows added in the 18th century. The building is two storeys high with an additional attic level in four gabled sections. It is constructed of coursed rubble with stone-tiled roofs. Horizontal bands of stone run at the window sill levels of the ground and first floors. The attic windows are paired, featuring plain stone mullions. There are eight windows in total, with sash windows containing glazing bars and simple architrave surrounds. The doorways are square-headed, topped with fanlights and architrave surrounds; number 21 has a traceried fanlight above a six-panel door.
The building is part of a group that includes other listed buildings along Church Street, including the Chantry, Little Chantry, Barton Orchard, the Catholic Church of St Thomas More on Market Street, numbers 7 and 9 to 19 Barton Orchard, numbers 5 and 6 and 27 to 31 (consecutive), and a wall in Newtown.
