Description
Old Townsend Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located in Bishops Cannings. It features a rendered and painted stone facade with a brick structure and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high with attics and consists of three bays. It has a central through hall and a rear wing on the right bay, creating an 'L' plan, along with later lean-to structures against the front block.
The farmhouse has a central gabled porch made of stone, which includes a moulded outer opening and a reset six-panelled inner door. There is a high plinth and a stone dripmould. The windows on the ground and first floors are stone ovolo moulded three-light windows, although the left ground floor window has been replaced with timber. The windows on the side elevation feature a slight hollow chamfer and label moulds with square terminals at the dropped ends. The roof is hipped and includes two gabled and leaded dormers. Flues from the front reception rooms on either side of the hall converge at a central brick stack. The interior has not been seen.
