Description

Horton Chain Bridge is a road bridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal, built around 1806-1807. The bridge is constructed of brick with stone copings and has a splayed shape. It features a thirteen-inch bullnosed brick elliptical arch and two brick string courses at the base of the parapet, which has half-round flush copings that end in slight piers. The parapet is slightly raised at the east end. There is stone capping on the revetment of the canal, which forms the towpath. The sluice slots have been renewed in steel.
