Description
Horton House is a house built in the early 19th century, with some later 19th-century modifications. It is constructed of painted brick and has a slate roof. The building has three storeys and a cellar, with a later two-storey extension made of colourwashed stone on the right side, which features one bay. The house has a double pile plan and a central stair hall. The facade includes raised quoins and plat bands, and a central six-panelled door, with the upper panels being glazed, set within a modest Tuscan portico. The ground floor has canted twelve-pane sash windows, while the upper floors have twelve-pane sashes, except for the centre which has an eight-pane sash. At the rear, there is a two-storey ashlar limestone porch from the 18th to early 19th century, featuring a moulded door head and fielded side panels, likely made from reused materials. The roof is hipped, with brick stacks at the gables. The added bay to the right has three-light moulded stone windows with leaded lights on both floors and a tall brick stack. There are also brick outbuildings extending to the right, including a 19th-century bake-brewhouse.
