Description
The Marlborough War Memorial is a cenotaph built in the interwar period, which was extended and restored in 2014. It is constructed from ashlar stone and sits on a composite stone base, featuring bronze plaques.
The memorial consists of a cenotaph on a square two-stepped base. The front (south-east) face displays a bronze plaque with a Classical entablature, inscribed with the words: "1914-1918 IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF MARLBOROUGH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY. NAMES." On each side, there are smaller bronze wing panels that read: "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF MARLBOROUGH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY 1939-1945 NAMES." The elements added in 2014 are not considered to have special architectural or historic interest.
