Description
The lodge east south east of Frankleigh House is a building dating from the mid to late 19th century, possibly designed by Henry Clutton. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a steeply-pitched stone tile roof with gabled ends that have small stone finials. A large central axial stack has stone diagonally-set shafts and a weathered base.
The lodge has an L-shaped plan, with a large porch on the southeast front that faces the drive. The porch is gabled and has a 14th-century style with a depressed two-centred arch doorway. Above the doorway is a small panel displaying the number 73, and there are unglazed side-lights. To the right of the porch, there is a three-light stone mullion window with a hoodmould. The other elevations are also gabled and feature a variety of one, two, three, and four-light windows.
The interior has not been inspected. This lodge serves as the entrance to Frankleigh House, which was remodelled by Henry Clutton in 1848.
