Description

This barn, located near Bradford-on-Avon, dates to the late medieval period. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled corrugated iron roof, featuring a plain finial on the north gable, which is stone-coped. The barn follows a 6-bay plan, incorporating a central threshing floor. A long gabled porch is present on the west side. A large doorway is situated on the east side, flanked by shaped buttresses, with a larger buttress to the north.

The interior features three raised cruck trusses, characterised by chamfered arch braces and principals, along with mortices indicating the presence of further arch braces. Two 18th-century collar trusses are found to the south. The design of the cruck trusses draws comparison to the tithe barn at Shaftesbury Abbey in Bradford-on-Avon. Historical evidence suggests the original walls may have been timber-framed, replaced with stone during the 16th century, based on a report and drawings from 1988.
