Description
Cross Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, with its gable facing the street. It dates from the late 16th to 17th century and is timber framed with whitewashed brick noggings and a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and part two storeys, consisting of two bays. The left bay, which is two storeys high, contains the main living room, while the entrance is located in the lower bay to the right. The framing is independently constructed with four and three panels high; the left bay features narrow framing and straight corner braces, while the lower bay, which is likely older, has ogee braces. There are shelter boards over the horizontal timber of the gable. The entrance has a boarded door, and there are timber two-light casement windows. The thatch is half hipped over the gables and extends down over a narrow outshut at the rear. There is a brick stack on the inner side of the upper bay and a dormer with a second brick stack at the rear. Inside, the upper bay has a rebuilt fireplace and a chamfered cross beam.
