Description
This is a house located at 89 Gloucester Road in Malmesbury, dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century and refenestration in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from rendered limestone rubble and features brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof. It has a two-room parallel plan and stands two storeys high with a symmetrical front that includes a six-panel door with a canopy supported by iron brackets, along with mid-20th century plate-glass windows. The rear of the house features a late 18th-century canted ground-floor bay with reeded architraves and 6/6-pane sash windows, which originally included a second bay to the left.
Inside, the interior was altered in the mid-20th century, with notable features including a wide winder stair located in a curved recess behind a left-hand fireplace. The roof structure extends over one bay of the roof of the adjacent property at No. 87A, and includes a truss with a cut tie beam, pegged collar, and butt purlins, while the rest of the roof was largely rebuilt in the 19th century.
