Description

This is a late 17th and early 18th century outbuilding, later converted into a house, situated on Gloucester Road, Malmesbury. The building is constructed of limestone rubble and has brick ridge stacks and a stone slate roof. It originally had a single-depth plan.

The front elevation presents a windowless range to the street. A doorway on the right-hand side features a 6-panel door, while a taller, later doorway is situated to the left, with a 20th-century door. Straight joints indicate the former locations of windows to the left of the central stack. The rear elevation has been altered with the insertion of 20th-century windows.

Inside, the building has been modified. The right-hand doorway leads to 20th-century brick-walled rooms. The left-hand doorway opens onto a staircase leading to a 2-room cellar. The cellar has thick, battered walls and a rear window with a 6/6-pane sliding sash. A roof extends to the neighbouring property at No. 89; it includes a truss with a cut tie beam, a pegged collar, and butt purlins, although the rest of the roof was largely rebuilt in the 19th century.
