Description

Cobbler's Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that has been altered in the 18th century and extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a thatched roof with both hipped and gabled ends, along with a brick stack at the right end. Originally, the cottage likely had a two-room plan, with the right room serving as a hall-kitchen that included a gable end fireplace accessed directly from a front doorway. The unheated left room was later divided into two rooms, with the left side functioning as a cobbler's shop until the 20th century.

The cottage is one storey with an attic and has an asymmetrical front with two windows. The 20th-century windows are two-light casements with glazing bars, and there are small attic windows beneath eyebrow eaves. A central glazed door is present, while the left end features casements on both floors with leaded panes and a plank doorway to the left. The thatched roof at the rear extends over a single-storey outshut, and there is also a 20th-century thatched roof wing at the back.

Inside, the right room contains a chamfered axial beam without stops and a 20th-century fireplace. The smaller left room has a boxed-in axial beam and an early three-board door. A stud partition separates the two rooms, extending up through the first floor and tie-beam. An old plaster ceiling conceals the roof structure, which was not inspected.
