Description

The war memorial located outside the school gates in Ebbesbourne Wake was erected in 1918. It is made of limestone and designed in a classical style, featuring a square pillar with a plinth. The memorial has plain panels that display the names and inscriptions of men who served and died in the First World War, with additional names added for those who served in the Second World War. Architectural details include a guilloche frieze, a cyma-moulded cornice, and a low pediment adorned with ivy carving in the tympanum and antifixae, topped with a vase finial. This memorial is a simple yet well-designed example of its kind.
