Description

A pair of semi-detached cottages dating from the late 17th century, located on the north side of Alvediston village. The cottages are built of dressed limestone with a thatched roof and brick stacks, employing a baffle-entry plan. They are single-storey with an attic, featuring a one-window front elevation. A planked door is set within a chamfered case to the left of centre, accompanied by a 20th-century gabled porch. To the right of the door are two two-light casement windows, and to the left is a single three-light casement window. The attic has a recessed, chamfered-mullioned two-light window. The left return side displays two two-light recessed, chamfered-mullioned attic windows and one mullioned window to a loft, with a stone-coped verge. On the rear elevation, a 20th-century porch shelters a door to the right, while a horizontal sash window, a three-light recessed, chamfered-mullioned window, and a two-light casement window are visible to the left and right respectively. The attic on the rear also has a two-light casement and a two-light recessed, chamfered-mullioned window. The left return includes a planked door and 20th-century steel casement windows. The interior was inaccessible when surveyed in February 1985.
