Description

Milford Hill House, a youth hostel, is a villa dating from around 1830, set back from the road with a drive and located in a fine garden. The building is two storeys high and has a stucco facade. It features a low-pitched hipped slate roof with flat eaves and a bed mould. On the first floor, there are five slightly recessed, moulded framed sash windows with intact glazing bars. The ground floor includes two tripartite sashes and two single sashes, all similarly framed with intact glazing bars. The entrance, located in the second bay from the right, consists of double doors that are now partly glazed, set in an architrave case flanked by pilasters, with an entablature above and a moulded pediment. A good verandah runs across the entire ground floor and returns to the south front, featuring a leaded tent roof supported by wrought iron diamond panelled supports with fanned profile brackets at the eaves. To the north, there is a set-back two-storey painted brick wing with one two-light casement. The south front, with the verandah returning, has two similar sashes on the first floor and two French windows on the ground floor in architrave frames. A very fine cedar tree stands in front of the house.
