Description
The Wilderness is a small L-shaped plan house built around 1830-1840, likely an enlargement of an earlier cottage. The part of the house closest to the road is two storeys high, rendered, and features a low-pitched hipped slate roof with flat eaves. There is one sash window on the first floor and a two-light casement window on the ground floor facing the road.
The east front has a similar window on the first floor with late glazing. The ground floor includes a canted bay window with moulded surrounds, a sash window at the front with later glazing, and a moulded cornice. To the north, there is a one-storey and attic L-shaped block, with the east front tile-hung and a gable end slate roof. The gables feature semi-dormer windows with pierced bargeboards, two sash windows with intact glazing bars, and moulded surrounds.
On the ground floor, there are two shallow canted bay windows with two-light casements at the front, also with moulded cornices. A central panelled door is located under a trellis porch. The wing to the west has similar bargeboards over a first-floor window. The overall appearance of the house is picturesque.
