Description

Sharcott Mill House is a late 18th- to early 19th-century house, originally designed as two cottages. The construction incorporates red and blue brick on malmstone footings, topped with a thatched roof. The house is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It features a central hall plan, with narrow rooms at the rear and extensions to the gable ends. The front elevation has four brick pilasters that meet oversailing courses at the eaves. A half-glazed door is complemented by a three-light fanlight. Upper-floor windows are casements, while the ground-floor windows are 16-pane sashes within segmental headed openings. Gable stacks feature patterned brickwork. A mid-19th century extension of two storeys and one bay is located to the left. To the right there is a single-storey outbuilding constructed of cob, which was in poor order in November 1985. The interior of the main rooms flanking the hall reveals ogee stops to the spine beams, and a cross partition is timber framed.
