Description
The Springford Memorial is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 1 metre north of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features two octagonal fielded panels with cherubs on either side, and a central panel adorned with finely carved naturalistic foliage. The corners have intricately carved quarter balusters, and the end panels are also octagonal with cherubs. The memorial includes a plinth and a grooved frieze with rosettes beneath a corniced and bevelled top. It commemorates Sarah Springford, who died in 1780.
