Description

This is a 17th-century cottage located on Burbage High Street. It is timber-framed with original wattle and daub infill now set on a 20th-century brick sill, and has a thatched roof. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, comprising three bays. It follows a lobby entry plan, with a shandry in the right bay. The timber framing extends to three panels in height and includes wavy corner braces. A six-panelled door sits below a reconstructed thatched canopy. There are paned timber windows, and a flush dormer window is visible in the centre bay and to the right gable. A rear block has been added to the right bay and is rendered. Inside, there is a chalkstone stack with a chamfered timber lintel in the centre bay, and a second stack on the rear wall of the right bay, likely the original parlour. Chamfered ceiling beams are also present. The property was undergoing renovation in January 1987.
