Description

Old Sick House is a building located within Marlborough College, constructed in 1863 and designed by architect William White. It is made of red brick with bands of blue headers and blue headers in the voussoirs. The structure features a half-hipped slate roof and stands three storeys tall. The windows are irregularly arranged sashes with glazing bars; those on the first floor are set behind pointed arches, while those on the second floor are topped with gables. There is a porch in antis situated behind a wide semi-circular arch. The design is stylistically reminiscent of the work of architect Street, particularly in the fenestration and proportions, while the wide arch suggests influences that look forward to the end of the 19th century, such as those seen in the work of Richardson.
