Description
The Bradleian Building, located at Marlborough College, was designed by architect G E Street and built between 1871 and 1872, officially completed in 1873. This structure is made of red brick and features a steeply pitched tile roof with Gothic moulded gable coping. It has tall brick chimneys that include brick tumbling to a lower batter, cornicing, and arched panels. The building is a single storey and has a wooden eaves cornice adorned with elaborately carved modillions. A moulded string runs at dado height, and the corners are accentuated with rusticated brick quoins.
The façade includes three sash windows with glazing bars, which are framed by rubbed brick voussoirs and moulded brick jambs. The north elevation features an aedicule in the gable end and three windows with three recessed panels below, one of which contains an angel depicted in a quatrefoil frame. The Bradleian Building is part of a group that includes C House, B House, The Museum Block, The Arcade, The North Block, the Porter's Lodge, gates and railings, the Chapel, and A House.
