Description

Nos 42 and 43 Newtown are a pair of houses likely built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. They have three storeys plus a basement and feature an ashlar front. The houses have a pantiled roof with end chimney-stacks, which are not located at the apex of the gables that have saddle-stones. There is a string-course above the ground floor, and each house has four windows arranged in pairs on each side. The windows are sashes, with glazing bars present only on No 43. The paired doorways are centrally located, with a six-panel door for No 42 and a four-panel door for No 43. The plinth includes basement windows, which are blocked for No 43. These houses are part of a group that includes Nos 38 to 49 Newtown.
