Description

The New Barn at Widley's Farmhouse is a barn dated 1749, located on the west side of Alderton Road in Sherston. It is constructed of coursed rubble with flush rusticated dressed stone quoins, stone dressings, and a gabled stone slate roof. The barn has a cruciform plan featuring north and south midstreys, both with hipped roofs. The midstrey jambs are made of dressed stone, and there are two-leaf plank gates. The east and west end walls include round-headed openings that project from the wall surface, framed by bolection-moulded architraves. All facades have ventilation slits. There is a 20th-century shelter shed extension on the south front. Inside, the barn features a butt-purlin, collar, and tie-beam roof structure.
