Description
No. 38 High Street is a former bakery that has been converted into a shop and house. It dates from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building features a rendered west front with stone dressings, while the rear is constructed from coursed rubble. The roof is gabled, covered with concrete tiles, and has a section of stone slates on the right. The plan is L-shaped, and the building is two stories tall with a three-window west front. On the ground floor, there is a large 4-pane 19th-century sash window in a deep reveal with a blocked surround to the left, along with similar, smaller windows on the upper floor. The doorway is offset to the left and has a flat hood supported by brackets, leading to a 6-panel door with the top two panels glazed. To the right, there is a shop window and another door, both linked by a flat hood on brackets, with a part-glazed shop door.
