Description
Draper’s Rest is a row house, originally two cottages, likely dating to the late 17th century, with a reputation for being built in 1683 (though a shield bearing this date is now obscured). The front of the building is rendered, while the rear is constructed of rubble, topped with a gabled roof of stone slate. A stone stack is located at the right end. A rear range runs parallel to the street, with two projecting wings set at right angles—the wing on the right is slightly more prominent. The two gables of the main building are of unequal heights, each featuring a single window. Number 20 has 3-light 19th-century casement windows, while Number 18 incorporates a shop window, above which is a 2-light 19th-century casement. A plank door is situated to the right of Number 18, marking the junction between the two former cottages. A Bath Sun Fire plaque sits above a title stone on Number 20. Inside Number 18, you'll find chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a large inglenook fireplace.
