Description

The Ludlow Mausoleum in Westbury Cemetery was built between 1886 and 1900 for the Lopes family, who were Barons Ludlow. This late 19th-century structure is hexagonal in shape and constructed from rough-faced snecked rubble. It features a parapet with angle finials, a cupola, and a gabled lantern. The parapet has blind tracery, with the center panel being taller and containing a light. The finials are adorned with poppy heads, gablets, and shield-form corbels. Each face of the main wall has a four-centred arch window that contains two trefoil-headed lancets and a central light. The mausoleum has a chamfered plinth, and there is a basement below a further chamfered plinth, which can be accessed by dog-leg stairs. The structure is enclosed by cast iron railings with fleur-de-lys headed stanchions on a dwarf wall.
