Description

The Lopes Mausoleum, located in Westbury Cemetery, was built around 1910 and is designed in a Norman style. It features a two-bay chapel with an apse and has a rough-faced rubble basement for the vault, accessed by steps on the south side. The structure is made of ashlar stone, with moulded cills and impost strings that extend over the round-headed windows. It has a moulded eaves cornice beneath a stone tile roof, with coped verges and segmental capped footstones. The east gable end includes an oculus and an arcaded band below it. The entrance is round-headed and consists of three orders, with the center embellished with chevron ornament. The doorway has a Tudor arch and is fitted with 16-panel doors. Two shields are present in the tympanum. The mausoleum contains the remains of George Ludlow and his wife Georgina, who died in 1912.
