Description
Turnpike Cottage is a building from the 18th century or early 19th century, designed in a picturesque style. It has a single storey and an 'L' shaped plan, featuring an octagonal toll house projection on the west side. The structure is made of local rubble with brick quoins used for the dressings. The roofs are thatched, with the octagonal section having flat eaves and scalloped fringe decoration, while the adjacent gable end displays a scalloped bargeboard. There are two light casement windows with drip moulds, one on each gable end, and three on the toll house projection, although one of these is blocked. The cottage has two diagonal chimney stacks located in the centre. The doorway features a beaded door and is situated in the thatched link section between the two parts of the cottage. Additionally, there is a later extension from the early 20th century, which is a brick, one and a half storey structure with four windows on the east side, also thatched.
