Description
No 50 on High Street is an important building located at a corner site with Crane Street. It dates from the 16th or 17th century and was altered in the 18th century. The building has three storeys and is timber framed. The first and second floors facing High Street are jettied and tile hung. On the Crane Street side, the second floor is also jettied and tile hung, while the first and ground floors are finished in painted brick. The roof is steep, hipped, and covered with old tiles.
On the upper floors facing High Street, there are two windows: small casements on the second floor and late 18th century flush framed sashes on the first floor. The ground floor features a plain shop front. The front facing Crane Street has similar window arrangements.
No 50 is part of a group with Nos 50 to 58 (even) and No 64, as well as with Nos 37 to 51 (odd) and No 76 on Crane Street.
