Description
The King and Bishop, formerly known as the Crown Hotel, is an early 19th-century building located on Crane Street. It has undergone modern alterations, with the western part of the hotel being demolished except for one bay that is now part of the main block. The structure is two storeys tall and constructed of colour-washed brick. It features a low pitch gable end slate roof with flat eaves.
The façade includes three wide pane sash windows and one two-pane sash window, all set within recessed flat brick arches and with block sills. The ground floor has three similar windows. The entrance is a recessed door with six panels and a rectangular fanlight above, which has arched and radial glazing. This door is framed by an architrave that is supported by panelled pilasters, carved scroll brackets, and a flat moulded cornice hood. All the windows are fitted with Venetian shutters.
The King and Bishop forms a group with Nos 76 and 81 to 86 (even), as well as with No 50 High Street.
