Description
No 44, formerly the White Hart Public House, is an early 18th century building that has undergone significant alterations. It was originally set back from the street. The left side features a late 19th century two-storey polygonal bay, while the older part of the building is constructed of brick and the bay is made of stone. The structure has a cornice and parapet above a double Roman tile roof, which is hipped over the bay and ramps up to the sides. The bay has round-headed windows, and the front features three-centred windows with a wrought iron bracket above the first-floor window. To the right of the bay, there is one window set back, which has a timber lintel and a glazing bar sash.
A projecting porch is located below, supported by engaged Corinthian columns on either side, with urns in relief above the blocking course. The north front is made of both brick and rubble, featuring two brick chimneys, one attic light in the gable, and one cross window with moulded panels. There are also two glazing bar sashes to the left. Additionally, there is a two-storey extension made of brick and rubble with double Roman tiles, as well as a taller two-storey extension with pantiles. At the rear, there is a three-light mullion and transom window on the first floor.
Nos 37 to 44, along with No 38A and Nos 46 to 48, form a group with No 13 Church Walk. No 43 is noted for its local interest.
