Description
Brimslade and Cadley locks, along with the bridges and short pound, were built around 1810 by John Rennie for the Kennet and Avon Canal. Each bridge features a bull-nosed 13-inch arch, a two-course string, and a brick parapet topped with stone half-round copings. Brimslade bridge has stone end piers and a parapet that is partly made of blue brick. Both bridges display lozenge cast iron GWR restriction signs indicating a weight limit of 4/6 tons, mounted on bull-headed cast iron stanchions. The locks are constructed of blue brick with stone copings designed to accommodate restored timber gates. The upper gates have hydraulic paddles, while the lower gates are equipped with cast iron ratchet paddles. The short pound connects both locks and contributes to the area's industrial archaeological significance.
