Description

Wootton Rivers Lock and road bridge is a road bridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal, built around 1810 by John Rennie. It is constructed of brick and features a string course at the base of the parapet, which slopes with the fall of the ground. The parapet has whitewashed stone half-round copings. The bridge includes bull-nosed bricks forming a 1½ brick ring. The abutments merge into the brick walls of the lock, which also have stone copings and quoins for the rebates of the reconstructed wooden gates. The lock measures 70 feet.
