Description

Manor Farmhouse is a manor house and farmhouse dating back to the 15th, 16th, and 18th centuries. It is timber framed with stone and brick sills, and incorporates a west wing constructed of stone and flint. The roof is thatched. The oldest part of the building is at the west end, representing an early 15th-century domestic building. This section has two doorways at the north end, one of which is blocked; the remaining door has a double, hollow-chamfered four-centred arch. A large, blocked pointed arch is visible on the west face, now containing a window similar to two others with three-centred brick heads and jambs of 16th-17th century brick. Upper-floor windows are two-light, square-headed, with hollow-chamfered jambs and mullions. A large block was added to the east, spanning three and a half bays. This section has timber framing with the framing extending four panels high, featuring corner braces. The south front of this eastern block is underbuilt in brick and sarsen boulders. A central, closely framed door, likely from the 16th century, is present, though it may not be in its original location. It has one cross window and three-light windows with leading and some original glass. A half-bay at the east end contains a chimney stack with a datestone inscribed "1680 K/W A" on the shaft. A further bay, dating from the 18th century, was added to the east, now containing service rooms and a gable entrance. A single-story service room with a gable stack is attached to the north. The roof is hipped, with three small inset dormers on each side.
