Description
87 Southbroom Road is an early 19th-century building that stands two storeys high with an attic. It is constructed of brick on a stone plinth, featuring a moulded stone cornice and blocking course, topped with a slate roof. The front has three bays, divided by slightly projecting wide brick piers, with the right-hand bay projecting slightly more. There is a small central half-octagon bay dormer with small paned casements. On the first floor, there are three tall windows, each three panes wide, while the ground floor has two large windows, each four panes wide, with moulded sill courses between the piers in the first two bays. To the right, there is a six-panel door with flush reeded panels and a three-pane arched and radiating fanlight, which is slightly recessed in a large brick arch. The building has an interesting design with a striking character. It is part of a group that includes Nos 71 to 99 (odd), The Volunteers Arms, and Nos 103 to 113 (odd).
