Description

Two monuments are located in the churchyard about 2 metres east and about 2 metres south east of the Church of St John the Baptist. These are two chest tombs, dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century, made of ashlar stone.

The first monument, which is unidentified and from the late 18th century, features slab sides with eroded low relief decoration and a chamfered capstone that includes an inscription. The second monument, known as the Henly monument, is situated about 3 metres south of the first. This early 19th-century tomb has baluster angles, a moulded base and capstone, and framed plaques on each side. The southern inscription commemorates Elizabeth Henly, who died in 1837.
